Firstly, a big thank you to all those who came to Arveth’s launch on the 30th March. The day was a roaring success, with far more people than we anticipated. Thankfully we still had enough bubbly!
The ceremony kicked off with the Godrevy Singers, with some verses and old sea shanties bringing Copperhouse Pool to life. Next, a small introduction from our Chairman, Rob Pring, with some short words about Arveth and a long list of thank-you’s to those who have given not only money, but time, effort and support in achieving our goal of buying a new race boat, which we believe is a milestone not only for our club, but for the town. Next, a small blessing from Guy and Vicky, 2 of the captains, blessing Arveth. Next, local Rev. Clifton gave a splendid blessing to our new boat. Champagne, kindly supplied by our local Co-op, was sprayed over the new gig and a Hayle junior crew was promptly lined up and carefully rowed her away on the official maiden voyage, coxed by her builder Peter Williams of Fowey.
Arveth, a Cornish word for ‘Attack’, was then rowed for a couple of laps around Copperhouse Pool, flanked by Hayle crews in our other racing gig Azook (1999) and training gig Piala (2009), as well as a group of canoeists from Hayle Canoe Club.
We thank you all for making the day a fantastic success, hope you enjoyed the bubbly, and look forward to keeping you updated on club goings-on!
