Once again hosted by The Old Quay House, our annual End-of-Season get-together was a fantastic night out for all involved.
This season has been a monumental one for the club, with a flurry of excitement earlier in the year from our new branding, new club clothing, new ethos, and climaxing in the delivery of ‘Arveth’ in March. From there we’ve gone from strength to strength, with Lucy and Andy heading up our ever-growing Junior section. The club has been a little more adventurous this season, attending more events and further afield than ever before. A fantastic end to the season was brought about by our Men’s crew bringing home the trophy for Fastest Cornish Pilot Gig, won at the Great River Race in London, a grueling 22 mile endurance race.
The awards, voted for by every club member via an open vote system, are just the tip of the iceberg. There have been too many moments to mention, made possible by all the people who make up our little community. And to all of those…thank you!
Best Newcomer – Jamie Hollow
Most Improved Rower – Molly
Lady of the Year – Caz
Man of the Year – Jody
Most Improved Junior Girl – Molly
Most Improved Junior Boy – Issac
Club Person – Andy
‘Broken Pin’ – Rupert, for a giving such a personal and poignant speech on Scillies, only to take the flack from John P’s jokes all season. Love you too Rupe!
‘Mini-Dune’ – John Haskins, for we have never seen anyone, let alone a veteran, keener to sprint up and down sand dunes during circuit training, all summer long!
Finally, as a gesture of thanks, for their support and hospitality this season, we presented Trevor and Margaret Richards of The Old Quay House with the Robert Bulgin ‘Buccaneer Trophy’, won at the Great River Race 2014…
